There are three things I love more than anything, God, Business, and Black people. These three things have proven to be a powerful force in the legacy of wealth creation in America. Over the last 13 years, I have been blessed to speak with thousands of black men, in my research and at conferences. I have also read and studied the legacies of black men in countless books. Connecting the dots of these experiences and patterned observations has been an exacting process. My personal relationship with black men as a daughter, a sister, and a friend, when combined with my research leads me to the conclusion that solutions in our community must include opportunities for ownership and equity for sustainable change. Both charity/philanthropy and economic justice are critical for advancement; for this to be a personalized realized goal, black men must own both a definition and understanding of equity for themselves. The pursuit of life, liberty, and ownership remains a reality of the benefit to being an American. Ownership which leads to equity must be apart of a black man's equation to being free. This is what I refer to as wealth our way. The Black Male Equity Initiative is my pursuit to put this belief in action.
My desire is to co-lead explorations of specific actionable ways equity can expand black male achievement to include wealth creation and ownership on both an individual and collective basis.
